English translation of Section TV’s interview with Lee Seung Gi on May 5, 2013

This is Section TV’s interview with Lee Seung Gi while he was filming the Gu Family Book.  I’m in the process of moving all my postings from my Facebook group over to my blog so that is why you are seeing this oldie but goodie. I hope you find it enlightening as I did! ^^

Lee Seung Gi has made hearts pound and captured women’s hearts on the small screen in the drama, The Gu Family Book. With his acting talent being a given, he has also entered the word of CF modeling and is a universal entertainer. We’re right about to start a heart-fluttering interview with him.

Seung Gi: Hello everyone, Section (TV). I’ve come to shoot a CF for (Berocca) vitamins.

Background music: Will you marry me and the words “Sha-bang, sha-bang” in rainbow colors as he holds a glass for the CF ad.

Voiceover: The man you would want to marry at first sight, Lee Seung Gi.

Interviewer: You’ve been smiling all day.

Seung Gi: I didn’t think I was smiling all day. (laughs)

Voiceover: At this late hour in the evening, Lee SeungGi, you look a bit tired.

Lee SeungGi: I just came from shooting the drama…I was a bit drowsy but after eating some chocolate, I feel revived.

Interviewer: Could you smile for our viewers?

Lee Seung Gi: I thought I was already smiling for the viewers. (laughs)

Voiceover: Oh! He’s so charming!!!

Interviewer: What kinds of foods do you eat while filming?

Lee Seung Gi: I can’t sleep very much because of the shooting schedule so I’ve been eating a variety of healthy foods including eel juice.

Voiceover: Lee Seung Gi has mentioned that he has always wanted to do a particular type of CF Ad.

Lee Seung Gi: I would like to do a CF ad for coffee. I guess no one thinks that I like to drink coffee.

Interviewer: It suits you well.

They try to get SeungGi to pretend drinking from an imaginary coffee mug. He stops in the middle says, “this is really awkward”. The captions underneath him say “embarassed”.

Interviewer: If there’s anyone who’d like to hire Seung Gi for a coffee CF, please give us notice!

Cut to the 2004 scene with his first debut with “Because You’re My Woman” written by Psy: Thanks to the explosive attention of all the Noona (older women) fans, he created a “liking older women” syndrome in Korea. At that time, the song was well received. That’s why the song did well.

Interviewer: What do you think of the idols who debut nowadays?

Lee Seung Gi: I really didn’t do well back then. (Laughter) They’re way better than I was back then. (Laugh)

Interviewer: You also had many noona fans.

Lee Seung Gi: Most of them were noona fans since it was 10 years ago. (laughter) (Remember he was only 17 when he debuted)

Voicover: Lee Seung Gi’s hobby is baking.

Interviewer: What is your best recipe?

Lee Seung Gi: Strawberry cake with fresh whipped cream.

Interviewer: Ohhh!!!

Lee Seung Gi: Do you like it as well?

Interviewer: Totally!

Seung Gi: I originally made it for myself, but after tasting it, I decided it was too much of a waste to eat by myself. So, I decided to make it for my future girlfriend someday.

Voiceover: The more we interview him, we find him to be such a charming man!

Cut to the scene for The Gu Family Book and him working with Suzy Bae:
Interviewer: Lee Seung Gi got to work with Suzy Bae who is 7 years younger than him. His romance with Lee Yoo Bi who is 3 years younger also made viewers’ hearts flutter.

Lee Seung Gi: Because I have at least more experience acting than my younger costars, I feel the responsibility to help them out and also to act as a sunbae (older and more experienced actor) and an oppa (older brother).

Interviewer: If you could pick who the atmosphere maker is on the set, who would it be?

Lee Seung Gi: For right now, I think it’s me. I really like talking about funny things. I’m really suppressing a lot right now. Lee Seung Jae teacher also has a lot of sense. He wrote in magic marker on his slippers (the pain, Jo Gwan Woong). The younger actors are still cautious with their acting and have a certain amount of anxiety. Out of my sunbaenims, I believe they are very humorous and are able to carry that onto the set’s atmosphere.

Voiceover: Cut to the scene with Seung Gi transforming into a beast. “Given the role as half human-half beast, Choi Kang Chi, Lee Seung Gi was successfully able to portray his transformation from human to beast.”

Interviewer: I heard that you went on a diet in order to fit the role of Choi Kang Chi. How was the reaction from people around you?

Lee Seung Gi: In order to portray the speed and agility of Choi Kang Chi, I started this diet. I think the reaction was positive. I think I needed to lose weight.

Interviewer: If viewership ratings reach 25%, can you make a promise?

Seung Gi: For a fresh twist, I thought Section TV would do something for me. (as he laughs). For Section? 10 interviews, whenever, wherever.

Interviewer: But if ratings reach 30%?

Lee Seung Gi: I will dress as Choi Kang Chi and sing the OST.

Interviewer: Really seeing him like this? It is worth waiting for, isn’t it?

Lee Seung Gi: I honestly hope that day will come. In the future, just like now, I hope that you will continue to cheer me on. Thank you very much.

Interviewer: Until now, it’s been an interview with the charming Lee Seung Gi.

[English] Lee Seung Gi’s Interview with Channel 3 in Thailand during his “Brilliant Show”

Credit: Sizzy Gal

I’m still  in the process of moving my posts from my facebook group to my blog and didn’t want this one to get lost in its archives. Although I’m not too pleased with the poor audio in this video, at least we can get a one on one interview with SeungGi and see him practicing Thai the day before his fan meeting.  Disclaimer: I am translating directly from the Hangul that I am hearing in this video.  If it is different in Thai, please leave a comment below or email me at the “about me” page with the cherry blossoms at the upper right hand corner of my blog.

Hello Channel 3 viewers, it’s nice to meet you. It’s the first time meeting you like this, I’m Lee Seung Gi. Seung Gi struggles with memorizing the Thai version of this greeting. He tries speaking Thai and says, “Ah! I just memorized this and I forgot it!” He says in Korean “There was nice to meet you… I will memorize it later.”

MC: What is your first visit to Thailand like?

Seung Gi: I’m very happy. Honestly, last year during my Asia fan meeting tour, this was a country that I wanted to visit, but because of scheduling difficulties, I wasn’t able to come. Because I’m able to come to a country that I wanted to visit for the first time, I’m very happy. First of all, the food is delicious. In addition, although I haven’t been there yet, I’ve always wanted to visit Chiang Mai or Phuket which are very well known in Korea. I really like Thailand.

MC: Compared to the Thailand that you imagined, how do you like Thailand now that you’re here?

Seung Gi: I think it’s much better. For example, when I was in my hotel room a while ago, I felt comfortable and I felt as if I came to rest and relax. I really liked it.

MC: How did you feel upon seeing your fans?

Seung Gi: I was really thankful. Also, there were many fans greeting me at the airport, so I thought to myself, “I haven’t faded away yet.” (laughs)

MC: What do you have in store for us tomorrow?

Seung Gi: Tomorrow? To begin with, I have prepared one to two more Thai phrases to use on my fans, afterwards, I have prepared a mixture of dramas that I have been in up until now, talks, and performances into what I hope will be a satisfying show since this will be my first official fan meeting.

MC: I heard that you will be speaking some Thai…Can I ask you what you have in store?

Seung Gi: Hint, well, it’s nothing grand. I’m very shy so I can’t say those kind of words easily…but words that a man would say to a woman…beautiful and sweet words. (laughs)

MC: Recently, Thai fans have directly picked you as the most romantic male celebrity.

Seung Gi: Wow really, Thai fans chose me? Wow, I’m really thankful. Tomorrow, I’ll make an effort to become romantic.

MC: In reality, would you consider yourself romantic?

Seung Gi: I’m not quite sure that I’m romantic, but in terms of love, I consider myself to be passionate.

MC: Do you have any final words to your fans?

Seung Gi: Channel 3 viewers in Thailand, I’m really, really happy that I had this chance to meet you. I’m very happy that I received this invitation to give a concert here due to your love and I thank you very much. I’ll continue to do my best and ask you to continue to keep rooting for me. Thank you.

MC: Can we ask you just once to give us a preview of what you’ll say tomorrow?

Seung Gi: Khun khun…kap kun krob….he sighs..(he seems a bit frustrated and irritated here being put on the spot)

At the end of the show, they are rehearsing what he is planning to say in his fan meeting tomorrow.

Seung Gi: “Phom rak khun. Kab Kun Krab…No matter how much I memorize them, I think I’m going to go crazy…”.
Seung Gi: “Phom rak kun, Khob khun krab (I love you. Thank you.)

Seung Gi: Thank you

Male Reporter to Seung Gi as he is sitting down before the graduation ceremony: Hello
Seung Gi: Hi, nice to meet you
Reporter: How are you feeling?

Seung Gi: I’m nervous and it hasn’t hit me just yet. Four years has passed so quickly that I can’t believe that I’m graduating already.
Male Reporter: But compared to four years ago, you look exactly the same.
Seung Gi: The same? I’ve aged a lot (he laughs as he fixes his cap)

Female Reporter: If you had a secret to being able to graduate without taking time off from school, what would it be?
Seung Gi: To begin with, many people have helped me, there has been a large amount of that part …when I see it…I have to come to school often…, I have to visit (professors) often anyhow and finding other things that I can do in a way that doesn’t harm other students is the best thing to do…
Female Reporter: How did you manage your grades? Did they come out well?
Seung Gi: My grades? I came out with average grades (he laughs and covers his mouth with his fist)

Male Reporter: You look the same as you did four years ago. If there was a secret to that, what would it be?
Seung Gi: Uh, this is really…well, I think that I’ve changed very much but I thank you for seeing me as being young. Uh, honestly, up till then I entered university right after my debut and didn’t know the real state of things. During the past four years, many people have helped me and I think that’s why I’m able to graduate right now. If there was a secret, it would simply be to work hard.

Male reporter: Did the team from One Night 2 Days send a congratulatory message?
Seung Gi: So far, I don’t think they know yet.

Male reporter: How do you feel about being awarded a lifetime achievement award?
Seung Gi: I don’t really feel that I’ve studied particularly hard from semester to semester, but I am thankful. In any case, I will try even harder in the future.
Man in the background: please wrap things up

Commencement speaker: We will be awarding a special lifetime achievement award. This lifetime award goes to Lee Seung Gi majoring in International Trade and Commerce for his active contributions to school life on February 21st, 2009 by the Dongguk University Dean, Oh Yun Goh.

NOTE: I love his HEODANG moment when he forgets to take his award!
