The announcer introduces Seung Gi and says he’ll be throwing the opening ball. Seung Gi says he hopes for a good outcome. The announcer uses a play on words using Seung Gi’s name. Victory in Korean is “Seung ri” , spelled phonetically “승리” whereas Seung Gi’s name in Korean is spelled “승기”. He says that the “Seung” in Seung Gi’s name lends an air of victory to the atmosphere. (In reality, the “Seung” in his name doesn’t stand for victory when reading his name spelled in Chinese characters. All Koreans have a Korean name spelled phonetically in Korean and a deeper meaning that can be traced by reading their given name in Chinese characters. There are many Chinese characters for the same sound such as “Seung”, his (昇) happens to stand for “rising/ascending (sun)”.
